Lower Secondary School
(Grade 6 - Grade 8 / Ages 11 - 13 as of August 31, 2026)
Located on the third floor of the main building, the Lower Secondary Division occupies three dedicated classrooms. Unlike the mixed-age model in our Primary Division, Secondary students study exclusively with peers in their own grade level. With class sizes ranging from 10 to 14 students, we are able to provide a focused academic environment with personalized support from teachers.

What is Cambridge Lower Secondary?
(from Cambridge Assessment International Education)

Cambridge Lower Secondary prepares your child for the next step of their education. It is part of our Cambridge Pathway programme that prepares students with the knowledge and skills they need for life, helping them thrive at school, university and work.
The programme is built around what matters most to your child as they progress in their education:
A broad curriculum for a balanced education:
A wide choice of 10 subjects, including English, mathematics and science. There are also plenty of opportunities to develop creativity, expression and personal wellbeing through subjects like art, music and physical education.
A clear path to progress, step by step:
Each stage of the programme builds on the previous one or from other educational systems, so your child will feel confident that they are ready for the next step of their education.
A global learner in a local context:
Cambridge Lower Secondary helps students discover new abilities and a wider world. Subjects like Cambridge Global Perspectives™ nurture a broad outlook, helping your child to understand their own culture, community and identity as well as those of others in different parts of the world.
A flexible approach:
Cambridge Lower Secondary works alongside local and national curricula, giving your child an international education that fits into their context.
An aligned programme based on the latest research:
We believe education works best when curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment align. This way, your child can enjoy a richer learning experience and develop as a life-long learner.
Studying Cambridge Lower Secondary at Camelot International School
At Camelot, the Lower Secondary years serve as a transformative bridge between childhood and young adulthood. We utilize the world-class Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum, but we apply it specifically to fulfill our three core missions for secondary education.
While primary school focuses on absorbing knowledge ("Input"), Lower Secondary at Camelot shifts the focus to "Output." We use the Cambridge framework to create frequent opportunities for writing, discussion, and presentation. Whether in English, Science, or Humanities, students are not just asked to memorize facts; they are required to articulate their reasoning and debate their viewpoints. This fosters the independence necessary to think and act on their own.
We view our assessments—including homework, tests, and end of term exams—not merely as grading tools, but as a roadmap for self-discovery. By rigorously tracking progress in Grades 6–8, we help students identify where they excel and where they need support. This allows them to strategically "strengthen their strengths" and overcome weaknesses before the high-stakes exams of Upper Secondary.
Through the Cambridge curriculum, students at Camelot explore various societies, histories, and social structures. We encourage them to look beyond their immediate surroundings and develop a global perspective, equipping them with the context needed to understand the complex society they will one day influence.
Our Policy for Progression to IGCSE
At Camelot, we are committed to ensuring every student is placed in an environment where they can thrive. Because of the sharp increase in academic difficulty at the IGCSE level (Grade 9), progression from the Lower Secondary Division to the Upper Secondary Division is not automatic.
Moving to Grade 9 (IGCSE, Upper Secondary) is a privilege earned through consistent academic application. To guarantee a place in the IGCSE program, Grade 8 students must meet specific academic benchmarks on their academic reports.
Why do we have this policy?
The IGCSE curriculum moves at a fast pace. Students who enter the program without a solid foundation in Grade 6–8 often find themselves overwhelmed, leading to stress and poor results. This checkpoint ensures that your child is fully equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their high school years.
